Homework 6: Street Photography - Sarah Tang

  1. Great shots, Sarah! I think my favorite is probably the last of your top ten. It feels very edgy and editorial. The one of the two men standing beside the road feels a little bit gray to me... might be something worth tweaking in post. Respect for taking pictures of people. I couldn't bring myself to do it lol, made me feel like a creeper.

    1. Sontag speaks about photography's voyeuristic (or creep) tendencies in On Photography.

“The photographer is an armed version of the solitary walker reconnoitering, stalking, cruising the urban inferno, the voyeuristic stroller who discovers the city as a landscape of voluptuous extremes. Adept of the joys of watching, connoisseur of empathy, the flâneur finds the world 'picturesque.”
      ― Susan Sontag, On Photography

^ If this is the case, are we solely voyeurs? Can photographers be anything other than that? How can we not contribute to this??

  2. The focus seems to be off with all of the images. How are you focusing? If manually, try using the point selection auto-focusing.

  3. It seems like most of these where taken on or near campus. I'd definitely love to see the same sort of shots in different parts of town!
